Four Levels Of Competition

Masters Taxidermists who have achieved the C.A.T. "Masters Award", in the applicable category.
Open Taxidermists who have not achieved the C.A.T. "Masters Award", in the applicable category.
Novice Taxidermists who have never entered in the "Open" level and have not received a first place ribbon in the "Novice" level.
Junior Taxidermists 15 years old and younger.

PLEASE NOTE: Only habitats that are entered in, "Best Of Category Habitats", will be judged. There is only one winner per category.

PLEASE NOTE: California Challenge entries MAY NOT be entered in any Standard Category (1-27). California Challenge entries MAY NOT share a base with another specie. Also, California Challenge entries ARE NOT eligible to receive
certain Major/Special Competition Awards.

 

Western States Team Challenge Specific Requirements

There may be two to four members per team. There must be four entries per team, one entry in four standard competition divisions: One in Birds; One in Game Heads; One in Life-size Mammals; One in Fish or in Reptiles. The team receiving the highest total score for the four entries is the winner. Ribbons are presented to each team member and their names will be engraved on the perpetual "Western States Team Challenge Trophy".

 

Taxidermist Of The Year Specific Requirements


A "Taxidermist Of The Year" competitor must have four entries. One entry in four (4) standard competition divisions. One in Birds; One in Game Heads; One in Life-size Mammals; One in Fish or in Reptiles. The contestant receiving the highest total score for their four entries can qualify as the winner. Note: To qualify as "Taxidermist Of The Year", at least two of your four entries must be awarded First Place Ribbons. 

 

Collective Artisan's Presentation Specific Requirements

A Collective Artisan's Presentation entry must be created by a team of two (2) but not more than four (4) C.A.T. Member taxidermists. The team must have a Captain and one (1) to three (3) additional team members. The team Captain will be responsible for providing all required entry registration  information and fees to the Competition Registrars.

The entry shall be comprised of a single base, consisting of a habitat appropriate for the animals being presented.

There must be four (4) life-size animals presented in the entry. They may be four (4) of the same kind of animal, or any combination of four (4) kinds of animals. But, there must be four (4) life-size animals presented in the entry.

If there are different kinds of animals being presented, they must all normally be found together in the same ecological niche.

Animals being presented in the entry may be: Birds; Mammals; Fish; Reptiles; Amphibians.

Each of the four (4) animals being presented in the entry will be evaluated, by the Competition Judge of that specific animal category, using the applicable competition score sheets.

The person selected to judge habitats, at the relevant Art Show Competition, will evaluate the entry's habitat using the applicable competition score sheet.

There will be a forty-dollar ($40.00) competition entry fee. The Captain of the entry team will be responsible for paying the entry fee and supplying the Competition Registrars with the names of all team members and the species of the four (4) animals being presented in the entry.

The team, whose entry receives the highest total score, will be deemed the winner. Each team member will receive a special "Collective Artisan's Presentation" award ribbon.
